Timothy BrophySymposium Organizing Chair and Chair-elect of MENC: The National Association for Music Education’s Assessment Special Research Interest Group Timothy S. Brophy is Associate Professor of Music at the University of Florida. A highly awarded teacher, was a 1998 Disney American Teacher Award honoree. He was the 2004 Hillsborough County Elementary Music Educator of the Year, a 2005 Distinguished Alumnus in the Lampert Music Hall of Fame at the University of Kentucky, and the FMEA 2006 College Music Educator of the Year. Dr. Brophy's articles have appeared in the Music Educators Journal, Teaching Music, the Orff Echo, the Journal of Research in Music Education, and numerous other music education publications. He is author of the books Assessing the Developing Child Musician, I’ve Got to Move!, and I’ve Got to Play! Dr. Brophy has served on the editorial boards of the Music Educators Journal, the Orff Echo, and Teaching Music, and currently serves on the Editorial Committees for Research Perspectives in Music Education, and Research Issues in Music Education. He is the co-Editor of The International Journal of Music Education: Practice, chair of the FMEA Music Assessment Task Force, and Chair-elect of the MENC: The National Association for Music Education’s Assessment Special Research Interest Group.

William BauerChair, MENC: The National Association for Music Education’s Assessment Special Research Interest Group Dr. William I. Bauer is the Director of Music Education and Associate Professor at Case Western Reserve University where he teaches undergraduate and graduate level classes in music education research, music cognition and learning, instrumental music education, and the applications of technology to music teaching and learning. He has published articles in leading journals in music education, is currently the Editor of Contributions to Music Education, and is a former member of the editorial committee of the Music Educators Journal. Dr. Bauer is the Chair of MENC’s Assessment Special Research Interest Group (SRIG), is on the National Advisory Board of the Technology Institute for Music Educators (TI:ME), and serves as a member of the Ohio Society for Music Teacher Education (OSMTE) Executive Board. He was named an Apple Distinguished Educator by Apple, Inc. in 2003, an M-Powered Educator by M-Audio in 2005, and a Google Certified Teacher by Google in 2008.

Bret SmithImmediate Past Chair, MENC: The National Association for Music Education’s Assessment Special Research Interest Group Bret P. Smith is Assistant Professor of Music Education at Central Washington University, where he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in music education. He is a teacher educator, conductor, and cellist specializing in instrumental music education. Dr. Smith taught K-12 music in Washington state and served on the faculty of the University of Maryland School of Music. He has served on the Executive Boards of the Washington and Maryland Music Educators Associations.

Lyndel BaileyCurrently a Ph. D. student in Music Education at the University of Florida, Miss Bailey’s professional involvement over the years include design and implementation of teacher training programs, and working with other team members to develop the only official secondary school music curriculum in the Caribbean (ROSE, Jamaica) and degree standards for the Arts (University Council of Jamaica). A key participant in all stages of the development of the Caribbean Secondary Music examination she also served as one of its Assistant Chief Examiners. Restructuring of the Music diploma and degree programs at the Edna Manley College in Kingston, Jamaica, is her most recent assignment.

Harry "Skip" PardeeMr. Pardee is working toward his Master of Music in Music Education degree at the University of Florida School of Music (2009). He graduated from University of Florida in 2007 with his Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree (cum laude) after student teaching in the Collier County Public Schools. A native of Rockport, MA, Harry Pardee is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music Preparatory School, where he performed as Principal Trumpet of the NEC Youth Symphony and NEC Preparatory Brass Quintet. He is cited by the Massachusetts State Senate as an “Outstanding Performing Artist,” and by IAJE as the “Most Valuable Player.” Mr. Pardee performs regularly at UF and around Gainesville, and has studied with Robert Pettipaw (NEC), Terry Everson (BU) and most prominently with Dr. Joyce Davis at UF. Mr. Pardee is the current President of the H? Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity.
