Welcome to the 8^th International Myotonic Dystrophy Consortium (IDMC-8) Meeting which will be held on the Florida Gulf Coast in late 2011. The IDMC is an informal group of clinicians and research scientists who have a common interest in understanding the molecular events which result in the neuromuscular disease myotonic dystrophy (dystrophia myotonica, DM) and using this information to generate effective treatment strategies for this disease. The IDMC-8 meeting is not only designed to provide a forum for scientific presentations and discussions on the latest results in DM pathogenesis and therapy development but also to promote interactions between clinicians, basic scientists, patients and their families.
