About the Instructor
The Modern Protective Structures short course is taught by an internationally renowned expert on enhanced structural performance and safety, Dr. Theodor Krauthammer. In 2002 Dr. Krauthammer was recognized by the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center-the research branch of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-for his outstanding contributions to the plan to rebuild the Pentagon following the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. He received his doctorate in engineering, specializing in structural behavior under severe dynamic loads, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. An international engineering consultant to government and industry, Dr. Krauthammer is a frequent presenter at prestigious engineering conferences and symposia. He is the author of numerous articles in technical publications, he authored the book Modern Protective Structures, published in 2008, that will be distributed to the course participants, co-authored the book Thin Plates and Shells: Theory, Analysis, and Applications, and has authored various chapters for several other books. Dr. Krauthammer is currently a Goldsby, professor of civil engineering and director of the Center for Infrastructure Protection and Physical Security (CIPPS) at the University of Florida College of Engineering.
