Gainesville, Florida, (Map of Gainesville, FL US) is located on the North central plain of the state, 50 miles (80.47 km) east of the Gulf of Mexico, 60 miles (96.56 km) west of the Atlantic Ocean and 70 miles (112.65 km) south of the Georgia border. Gainesville is 350 miles (563.27 km) north of Miami, 115 miles (185.07 km) north of Orlando, 130 miles (209.22 km) northeast of Tampa, and 70 miles (112.65 km) south of Jacksonville. Three major highways serve Gainesville: Interstate 75, U.S. 301 and U.S. 441.

Airline Travel
Currently three major airlines, Delta Airlines, US Air, and Northwest Air service Gainesville with approximately 12 inbound and outbound commercial passenger flights per day. Gainesville Regional Airport (GNV), located in the northeast quarter of the city, is the principal commercial airport for a nine-county area.

In addition to flying directly to Gainesville, visitors may find flying into Tampa (TPA), Orlando (MCO), or Jacksonville (JAX) and travel to Gainesville via rental car or shuttle to be more economical than direct flight in and out of Gainesville.
